Description
ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS VIOLIN WORKSHOP FOR ADULTS
with instructor Heather Hull Hart
This workshop is for adults who want an introduction to the violin. ("Will I like this instrument? How does it work? Will I want to pursue it further?") In this 3-hour workshop, you will be introduced to basic, beginning violin techniques: how to hold the violin and bow correctly, how to produce a good sound on each string, how to tune the instrument, how to care for the instrument, starting the left-hand fingers on the fingerboard, and more, as time allows.
In this one-day workshop, we will also cover basic music-reading instruction: simple rhythm (quarter notes, half notes, etc.) and how to read notes on the staff. Each attendee will have the option of getting complimentary stripes (cut from craft tape) placed on their fingerboard by the instructor. (This helps place fingers in the correct spot for the right pitch, kind of like a temporary guitar fret. If there are already stripes on the fingerboard of your instrument, the instructor will check to see if they are in the right positions.) The instructor will check each person's technique and posture - how you are holding and playing the violin and bow, giving personal tips and encouragement.
Attendees are to bring their own violin, bow, and resin. (If you do not own a violin, rentals are available at local music stores like Music Unlimited and Ted Brown Music.) Please bring a water bottle.
