PWYC $5-10 suggested donation.“We assume others show love the same way we do - and if they don't, we worry it's not there.” - Gary ChapmanExploring the importance of intimacy and support of friendship and community, artist Rebecca Zala will explore the 5 Love Languages Model of Physical Touch, Words of Affirmation, Quality Time, Acts of Service, and Gifts as they relate to platonic relationships through a workshop and group discussion. Awareness of eachother’s Love Languages helps us understand both how to express our own needs, and how to meet the unique needs of our loved ones. This workshop will explain and explore each language with practical examples - working with participants to identify the ways in which they express and receive love. Various activities will explore each love language. For example, writing a letter of thanks to someone we care about, a physical communication exercise, and creating an art craft for a friend. This workshop centers around the importance of healthy, engaged friendships as a key factor in developing a strong and reliable support system. Amatonormativity and intercultural relationships will also be touched upon. Snacks provided! Artist Bio:Rebecca Zala is a multidisciplinary artist who is especially interested in prioritizing platonic intimacy, relationship anarchy and radical empathy. She has exhibited at Trinity Square Video, Gladstone Hotel, and Super Wonder Gallery. This year she is completing a Bachelor's Commission for Trinity Square Video and performing with a feminist sound poetry choir at the Gardiner Museum. Currently enrolled in Ryerson’s Creative Industries program, she is engaged and enthusiastic about her two module specializations, Storytelling in Media and Professional Communications. Rebecca is a Children's Media Lab associate for the Transmedia Zone at Ryerson University and is pursuing a career in the children's entertainment industry. Venue Accessibility Information:187 has general parking in the front and does not have designated accessible parking spots. There is a ramp to enter the gallery and no automated doors. The washroom is on the same level but is not accessible by wheelchair due to the layout of the space.
