For 22 years, Chicago (South) Street Journal Newspaper of Chicago (CSJ) has been a pillar in the Chicago community.
From the reporting of breaking news regarding Chicago‘s urban streets,neighborhoods and institutions, to provoking a spirit of advocacy towards positive social change in the stories addressed. Its publisher and editor Ron Carter, with 41 years of community organizing background and roots from the West and South sides of Chicago, and his friends invite you to celebrate 23 years as the ― “grit of the community” as Congressman Bobby Rush noted about Carter. Come out and bring your friends and family, as we Chicagoans, continue to control our message and our news. Let’s wish Ron Carter and Chicago Street Journal another 23 years of reporting the news. Show your support by joining us on Saturday, October 29, 2016, 6 PM at The Swift Mansion.
Keynote Speaker - A dynamic leader and manager, Colonel Eugene Frederick Scott, will speak at the Chicago Street Journal 23rd Anniversary on October 29th, 2016. Mr. Scott is former Publisher of the Chicago Defender and Chair of The Defender Charities.
The Colonel's wife Beverly Reed-Scott will be the Captain of the Ceremony. Mrs. Scott has held every position with the newspaper from a writer, editor and associate publisher.
Chairman Fred Hampton, Jr. will also be a Keynote Speaker for this event. )Prisoners Of Conscience Committee/Black Panther Party Cubs.)
Also present will be the first Publisher of the newspaper Ms. Katherine Wallace, and the second Publisher Mr. Floyd Rawlands.
Singer, actress, and poet Ms. Joan Riffun will perform that evening.: “There’s nothing like singing live,” Riffun said. “You can record music and that’s all great, but the energy that you get from the audience, and when they enjoy what you’redoing, there’s no feeling like that.” CSJ look forward in presenting Ms. Riffun back to Chicago.
