Description
Alanna Morris-Van Tassel, a longtime featured performer with TU Dance and dancer/choreographer in Let the Crows Come, is leading a master dance class workshop at Coffee Street Fitness & Dance Studio on Friday, March 6 at 4 p.m. Registration is $5 per person and the workshop is available to persons age 5 and up. No dance experience necessary. Space is limited.
Participants will have fun learning from Alanna's extensive contemporary modern dance practice, as well as how she approached and accomplished the deconstruction and re-contextualization of Ashwini Ramaswamy's Bharatanatyam dance (a technique totally foreign to her) into a unique movement paradigms for Let the Crows Come.
This workshop is happening in conjunction with Ashwini Ramaswamy’s Let the Crows Come, a series of trios and solos by dancers of three distinct artistic lineages, at the historic St. Mane Theatre in downtown Lanesboro on Friday, March 6th at 7:30 p.m. Click here to learn more and purchase tickets to the evening performance. Brooklyn-born Dancer, Choreographer, Educator, and Producer, Alanna Morris-Van Tassel was a leading performer with TU Dance from 2007-2017. She is one of Dance Magazine's "25 to Watch!" (2018), City Pages’ Artist of the Year for 2018 (2018), and City Pages' Best Choreographer (2019). Alanna's work excavates cultural retention and fragmentation as it relates to Caribbean diasporic identity around ideas of home, place, displacement, spirituality, traditions and rituals. Alanna is a 2015 recipient of a McKnight Fellowship in Dance and a 2016 recipient of a travel/study grant from the Jerome Foundation to participate in the New Waves! Festival in Port of Spain, Trinidad studying Afro-Caribbean dance and culture. She is currently working on a new project, Black Light re: Search, to premiere at The Cowles Center in March 2020.
