We invite you to laugh, cry, and remind yourself how terrible bees are, with a special screening of 1991’s MY GIRL. Hosted by Rewatchability, a podcast dedicated to re-visiting the movies of our past to see how they hold up today.
Set in the summer of 1972, beloved family favorite/inexplicably heartbreaking nightmare MY GIRL tells the story of Vada, a precocious 11-year-old girl grappling with the familiar struggle of growing up and the less familiar struggle of watching Jamie Lee Curtis hook up with your dad.
Vada (Anna Chlumsky) pals around with her best friend Thomas J. (Macaulay Culkin) clashes with her father (Dan Aykroyd) and becomes infatuated with her teacher (noted dreamboat Griffin Dunne) until her coming-of-age story culminates in a moment of genuine tragedy.
She also celebrates the Fourth of July, thus making this the best Independence Day movie not to feature Randy Quaid drunkenly battling aliens.
The Rewatchability gang and a special guest will introduce the screening, give away prizes, and take questions from the audience that, we’re guessing, will probably just be angry comments about bees.
