Judi Jackson, named Jazz FM's Vocalist of the Year in 2020, has rapidly established herself as a captivating presence in the jazz world, known for her mesmerizing voice and rich emotional depth. Her major label debut Grace (Sony Music) earned widespread international acclaim and garnered glowing reviews, along with a feature on BBC 2’s Later…With Jools Holland. In late 2023, Jackson released her much-anticipated studio album My American Songbook, a collection of reimagined jazz standards that reflect her deep influences from legends like Betty Carter, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Nina Simone. Songs such as My Baby Just Cares For Me, Stormy Weather, and Here Comes the Sun highlight both her technical brilliance and her unique ability to convey deep emotion through song.
The album’s release was celebrated with a sold-out show at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall during the prestigious London Jazz Festival, reaffirming her status as a major talent in contemporary jazz. Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Jackson's musical roots began in the church, where she played piano and sang in the choir. Her journey has seen her collaborate with Grammy Award-winning artists like Snarky Puppy, with whom she recorded the original track Only Love, and share stages with the likes of the same group. In 2024, Jackson headlined Queen Elizabeth Hall again as part of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival, further cementing her place as one of the most exciting voices in contemporary jazz.
