Saxophonist Bobby Watson, known for his exceptional talent, held a significant role as the Musical Director of the Jazz Messengers from 1977 to 1981. This period played a pivotal role in his musical career, firming his standing in the jazz community. Watson's collaborations include jazz giants like Max Roach, Louis Hayes, George Coleman, Branford and Wynton Marsalis.
Additionally, he has supported vocal talents like Joe Williams, Dianne Reeves and Lou Rawls. Watson started his group, Horizon, with bassist Curtis Lundy and drummer Victor Lewis. Horizon's music mirrors the Jazz Messengers' style but with a modern twist. Their acclaimed discography features albums like Post-Motown Bop and Midwest Shuffle, Live! under Blue Note and Columbia labels.
