About Big Hope Project
Reducing recidivism and mass incarceration in Massachusetts
Big Hope Project, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded by two Haitian American brothers from Dorchester, Massachusetts. We provide restorative justice services primarily in areas disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs. Big Hope Project’s mission is to reduce the cycle of recidivism by providing direct-aid to communities disproportionately impacted by the War On Drugs. Our services include free record sealing/expungement, workforce development events, and outreach for the Massachusetts Social Equity Program.
● Big Hope Project has recently launched the Big Hope Fellowship program, which is made up of a diverse group of BIPOC cannabis entrepreneurs, each a resident of areas disproportionately impacted by the war on drugs. The program is designed to empower our fellows by providing & connecting them with expert cannabis industry professionals, resources, training, and hands on experience. In addition, most of the cohort are certified Social Equity applicants in various stages of obtaining their cannabis licenses. There will be a fellowship graduation ceremony at the end of the year to commemorate their progress & recognize supporters of this cohort.
● On September 10, 2022, Big Hope Project in collaboration with Apothca Cannabis will host Each One Teach One: Reimagining Marketing, which includes a free seminar,
B2B Networking session, and pop ups. Big Hope Project has a goal of sealing/expunging fifty MA criminal records from demographics identified by the C.C.C. as harmed by the war on drugs and hosting eight events focusing on cannabis licensing education targeted specifically to residents & communities designated as
ADI under the CCC guidelines. The Big Hope project aims to positively impact those communities through this work. The individuals that we target are heavily made up of people meeting the following criteria:
● Are residents of an area of disproportionate impact, as identified by the Cannabis Control Commission, for at least 5 of the past 10 years and an income that does not exceed 200% of the Federal Poverty Level;
● Have past drug conviction(s) and residence in Massachusetts for at least the preceding 12 months;
● Are married to or the child of a person with a drug conviction and residence in Massachusetts for at least the preceding 12 months;
● Have been arrested for cannabis or cannabis-related charges in any U.S. State; and
● Are women, Disabled, Native American, LGBTQ, African American, Hispanic, or other Minority.
Sincerely,
President, Harry Jean-Jacques
