new link is www.twitch.tv We are thrilled to welcome the legendary Blitz Club DJ and Rich Kids/Visage drummer Rusty Egan to our Festival with an exclusive Bowie & The Blitz Club DJ set. Rusty was the man spinning the sounds in the iconic club that created the New Romantic movement and was home for many of the 80s superstars that defined our youth. London 1979. Thatcher in power, an economic depression and the halcyon days of Punk fading fast. Along comes a group of kids, intent on glamourising their lives and it changed pop music forever. The Blitz Club, housed in a small room in Covent Garden, was where the magic happened, where punks who were done with the leery drunkenness and the self harm dressed to the nines like walking pieces of art and danced to Bowie, Roxy, Lou Reed and Kraftwerk. Boy George, Steve Strange, Billy Idol, Spandau Ballet and a host of other luminaries soon to dominate the charts, lived and worked here while Bowie, Michael Jackson and Grace Jones checked out the sights and sounds for inspiration. The press came up with the title 'New Romantics' for the Blitz kids and it stuck.
