London, 23rd February 2018 – The rapid growth of voice-activated smart speakers and their impact on the music industry is clearly set to be one of the biggest talking points of 2018.
Accordingly UK record labels association the BPI and ERA, the Entertainment Retailers’ Association, are delighted to stage their latest joint Insight Session that will explore this burgeoning new area. The event is curated by Music Ally, hosted by its CEO and Founder, Paul Brindley, and will feature presentations by Amazon and Futuresource as well as a panel discussion with representatives from 7digital and The Orchard.
NPR and Edison Research shows that 16 per cent of Americans indicated they owned a smart speaker by the end of 2017, with over two thirds (70%) of these claiming they now listen to more music in the home as a result. And with Apple having just launched its own HomePod device to compete with the more established offerings from Amazon and Google, the market looks set to grow even more rapidly.
This BPI/ERA Insight Session will therefore consider how people are discovering and playing music on smart speakers, and what this is likely to mean for labels and streaming platforms. It will also explore how smart speakers and virtual assistants may impact music consumption and encourage more mainstream music consumers. Finally the event will look at how the technology can help shape marketing campaigns in future.
The event will comprise:
- 4.00pm Registration
- 4.20pm Stuart Dredge, Music Ally Editor-in Chief, presents key findings of the BPI/ERA commissioned report:
