Description
2023 marks a special 50th anniversary for BPI, and to celebrate our Insight Series this year will focus on the next 50 years.
We will produce three Insight Sessions focusing on The Future Of… a different aspect of our industry, in association with BPI official partner Bowers & Wilkins.
We are delighted to announce a partnership with Sofie Hvitved, from the Copenhagen Institute of Future Studies. Sofie will be presenting three very special keynotes, one for each session.
The first of our Future Of… series will be The Future Of Recorded Music, and will take place on Wednesday 19th April at the iconic Abbey Road Studio Two. The world’s first purpose built recording studio, over its 92 year history, Abbey Road Studios has borne witness to every technological advancement throughout recorded music history, and we are honoured and delighted to welcome Karim Fanous, Abbey Road Red, to share their journey with us from past, present to future. The event will also feature insights from Rasika D’Souza (Futuresource), exploring the current trends and stats in consumer behaviour and hardware, and a panel discussion, led by Sofie Hvitved, and featuring Rasika and Andy Kerr (Bowers & Wilkins) alongside other very special guests including renowned Academy and BAFTA award-winning composer Steven Price.
About the speakers:
Karim Fanous is Innovation Manager at Abbey Road, leading their music technology incubator, Red. Red, the incubator, was launched in 2016 and takes its name from REDD, the Record Engineering Development Department, a crack technical team which operated within the walls of Abbey Road Studios alongside offsite team-mates at EMI Hayes to create recording gear which helped artists change the world. That’s one chapter in an innovation story at Abbey Road over the last 90 years which also includes the creation of stereo and automatic double tracking. This same pioneering spirit applies to their incubation programme and how they want to look outside and help talented founders write the next chapters in the story of music technology. Join Karim to hear about the past, present and future of technological innovation, and just how closely technological developments shape the journey of recorded music.
