Description
Bread is an active, ephemeral form of storytelling, a way of connecting past action and history with the present, providing us energy for the future. Bread connects our stewardship of land with our ability to nourish each other in the present. Bread baking as a form of self expression can be a powerful and captivating way to examine and illustrate our relationships with nature, geography, land use, poverty, history, family, culture, and memory.
Bread is a beautiful, fleeting, edible form of sculpture. We are fortunate in this moment to utilize grain in our baking that is sustainably grown by people in our Maine community. This grain is marked by the weather conditions and hands that tended it, and we carry this intention forward with our baking, contributing our own histories (in the recipes we use) and our actions in the present moment. The result is a deeply personal, truly nourishing, record of the possibilities of community.
The Maine Grain Alliance is proud to present a two part event celebrating bread and our connections to it.
