On June 21st BRIC will host NYC Public Schools and community groups to join us for a day of art-making, film screenings and music performances by multi-disciplinary artist and hip-hop songwriter/performer TT The Artist, jazz-tinged breakthrough hip-hop artist Wiseboy Jeremy and guitarist/activist Mark Barden to celebrate the culmination of Art a Catalyst for Change!
Art A Catalyst For Change is a city-wide program initiated by several NYC Council Members and dozens of activists as a way to raise awareness and end gun violence through art. Every year since its creation, the New York City Council and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs funds organizations across the city to deliver arts and media programming that engages, inspires and mobilizes change around the issue of gun violence. This year, BRIC has partnered with Artist For Artist to bring in world-renowned artists to the stage and to deliver a thoughtful program engaging Mark Barden (Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Sandy Hook Promise and Co-Founder of Artist For Action) as our keynote speaker. Mark was a professional musician until his youngest son, Daniel, was tragically murdered during the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Mark has since dedicated himself to sparing other families the pain of losing children to gun violence.
This event is geared toward 6th-12th grade students and community groups working with this age group. Please note, you must be a teacher, school administrator or community group administrator/facilitator to RSVP on behalf of your group. Single RSVPS will not be issued as we are prioritizing groups.
