He has written such classics as "War is a Force That Gives Us Meaning", "Days of Destruction Day of Revolt" and his new book "Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperatives of Revolt" which is causing all kinds of interest and controversy. He also has a weekly column at truthdig.com which you can check out HERE! He also has a brand new internet video pod cast called Days of Revolt: Chris Hedges was the Foreign Bureau Chief for the New York Times and covered the Central American Civil Wars, The Revolutions of Eastern Europe in the 1980's, The 1st Gulf War, The disintegration of Yugoslavia, and later moved to France to cover Al Qaeda in North Africa. He has lived in places like the Gaza Strip and has witnessed the true horrors the Palestinian people are faced with between the Authataurianism of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the ineffectiveness of Palestinian authority, to the under reported suffering and oppression Israel causes through blockades, occasional invasions, violent reactions to protests, indiscriminate bombings and harassment (like flying Israeli Military Jets over residential areas at 3 am in the morning). Chris left the New York Times, a paper with an unofficial motto "Do not alienate our donors (leisure class) too much", around the time of the initial invasion of the 2003 Invasion of Iraq: Operation Iraqi Liberation (OIL) I mean Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was scheduled to make a commencement speech at Rockford College as a stage to denounce the invasion of Iraq.He as booed off stage and his mic was cut off twice... There was such a reaction to his speech at this College that the New York Times gave Chris an official warning to stop criticizing the Iraq war or he would be fired. He did not want to betray the ethics that his father instilled in him, who was a pastor, so he quit and shortly after released the book "War Is A Force That Gives Us Meaning" which was an non-chonologically organized book that talks about the horrors of Warfare and is a critical look about how violence, even if it is necessary, is a something that will poison us and that critique is used to analysis the war and violence of American society. Chris was there in the early days of the Occupy Wall Street Movement and became one of its most visible faces and voice. He and Cornel West put Wall Street on trail and was arrested outside of Goldman Sachs.Watch It Here:Chris was featured in one of Michael Moore's films "Capitalism: A Love Story"His new book called Wages of Rebellion: The Moral Imperative of Revolt. It is book that delves into the history of some critical revolutions and the leaders who uplifting the masses to rebel against the structures of power that had decay to such a state to cause people no longer accept a status quo that people so easily previously accepted as the natural order of things. Here is a panel of Chris Hedges, Cornel West, and Richard Wolff: How do you kick off a revolution? Chris over the years has been a strong advocate for "F***ing Up The System" as he called it when he addressed a Green Party in New Jersey in 2013. The video is a critique of the Green Party is that electoral politics should be a tangential element of the activities of the party's business while it should be a party of activism or at a very minimum a support group that can provide logistical support for supplying protesters with food and other materials they need to maintain their activities... A criticism the GPOC has taken seriously as we have realized that our party has been playing by the rules of system not designed for them on the State and National level but with the acknowledgment that there is a lot of potential on the local level. This includes blocking vehicles with roadblocks that are trying to frack your communities, occupying police stations, organizing prisoners who more than half are in prison for non violent drug offenses and are mainly black and latino to do hunger strikes/ stop working for companies(while in prison) that pay a wage comparable to wages paid to 8 year old Chinese factory workers, boycotting and divesting in institutions that support despotic regimes or countries like the Israeli Apartheid State, running for local political office like Ksama Sawant and shaking things up on the local level, Public Banking to replace the rapacious vampires of Wall Street, and just starting to look into Alternatives all together because what we have now is not sustainable and if there are no alternatives proposed the Tinder box we call America is going to catch fire like the once unbothered Arctic Forests have been due to climate change. Heed the Call Orange County. TIME TO THROW SOME WRENCHES INTO THE MACHINE.Also to understand the what Chris Hedges has been saying from a local context/perspective it is best to look at the Anaheim Police Department's extrajudicial killing of Manuel Diaz in the Summer of 2012 and how the police handled themselves afterwards... It is a common pattern around the country. So they already know how this is going to play out... the question is do you?
When a group of concern citizens started inquiring about the death of their neighbor Manuel Diaz the police of Anaheim had quite a reprisal for them. These are, in what Chris Hedges says, are brushfires that are breaking out and are being extinguished. Other Key examples Occupy Wall Street/The Marches on Ferguson, The Baltimore Riots, etc. The current conditions that exist to create right wing movements like the Tea Party, but since the grievances of many of these people are not being addressed: The public Bail Out of Wall Street and massive losses of property(their savings and homes) of many American citizens, The maimed veterans who are coming back realizing they are not fighting legal wars to the benefit of a handful of major companies (Dick Cheney's Haliburton stock price has quadrupled since before the invasion of Iraq) and are not being taken care of by Uncle Sam, People of minority communities are having members of their community lock away in prison for non-violent drug offense(by in large), America has lost around 60,000 major factories that has turned the countries inner economic core into an abandoned shell of its former self and has pitted the Cheap Labor of the 3rd World against the lowering wages of American workers and even the wage slavery/state sanction chattel in our own prison system which makes up of 25% of the world population of prisoners. The elite class knows this... they have designed this... and as a result they are passing laws or adding to laws like to the NDAA section 1021 and 1022 where it will be legal for the military to detain American citizens indefinitely... no habeaus corpus. Chris Hedges Sued Obama in Obama vs. Hedges and won in a lower court but it was thrown out because they ruled that Hedges had no standing... regardless if this would be a wonderful tool to disappear journalists just like Mr. Hedges who spends his time challenging the narrative our puppet leaders would have us believe. So the gun powder has outgrown the powder kegs and is all over the ammunition room... and we don't know when the start of this will ignite... but one this is for sure... the clock is ticking. Many of the conflicts and/or "brushfires" we are seeing today are is the beginning of the conflicts that we are going to see for the next century. It is on. Chris Hedges Interview of Julian Assange:Written Version:Verbal Version:So they already know how this is going to play out... the question is do you?Jill SteinJill Stein is the Green Party Presidential Candidate for 2016. She was also for 2012.In 2012 She was arrested because she and her running mate Cheri Honkala for trying to enter a presidential debate. http://www.rt.com/usa/police-jill-stein-debate-589/Her Presidential Candidacy raises bigger questions for our Democracy as a whole. Do we as Americans actually get represented, our interests and values, during a Presidential campaign? We have a two party system and both parties are coalitions are several different interest group that are sometimes at odds with each other that have been bought out by economic interest group and it is a winner take all system. Even in places like Turkey, a country with Democratic organs, they even have a this thing called proportional democracy. The HDP won 13% and they are "attempting" to form a coalition government. Our republic is very disproportionate in its representation of its people and on top of that it is bought out by more and more money thanks to the Citizen's United Decision which is exasperating these issues even further. One of Jill Stein's major policy pieces is her "Green New Deal" which is a Green version of FDR New Deal on how to stabilize the economy for the masses of people. Gayle McLaughlinGayle McLaughlin is the former Green Party Mayor of Richmond, CA. (The Bay Area). She made national headlines when after the housing crisis causes all kind of mayhem for the economy and non 1% America and especially the worker class her city had a crisis on her hands... Hundreds on families were loosing their homes. Many of these families were also paying 2-3 times more than the house was actually worth... all these homes were clearly underwater. So her plan was to use Eminent Domain, which is traditionally famous usually for how governments collude with private interests to force people to sell their property for "Fair Market Value" for the "good of the community" only to be used by commercial interests- like for making room for oil and gas pipelines through rural and suburban America though it also used appropriately in many cases like making room for Freeways, to be fair. "Under Richmond's plan, the city would seize the mortgage—but not the home—with backing from a private firm. They would then reduce the loan principal and refinance into a new government-guaranteed loan. That would leave the borrower with a fixed payment and less debt."Novel Use of Emminent DomainHere is Gayle on Bill Moyers & Company: _______________________________________________________________________________Notes from Event Producer:When I threw an event with Dr. Richard Wolff in February of 2015 I was told by everyone that only 30 people would show up for the event. Even KPFK who drove Dr. Richard Wolff to the event said that only 30 people would show up because this is Orange County but when they showed up there eyes were wide open in amazement to the fact that there were 400 people sitting down in a room, after only 12 days of promoting the event, all to hear what the Marxian Economist had to say. What was said here is that Orange County is not what it used to be.The numbers also point to the fact that 90% of the online ticket sales were from people living in Orange County. The same will be true for this event.
