The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© is a 4-day ( 2 Saturday/Sundays) intensive training academy focusing on providing individuals with the skills need to guide, mentor and support anyone who would like to enter into or sustain long-term recovery from an addiction to alcohol or other drugs. Provided in a retreat like environment, the CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© prepares participants by helping them to actively listen, ask really good questions, and discover and manage their own stuff.

PCA utilizes the CCAR curriculums exclusively. The CCAR Recovery Coach Academy© was conceived in 2008 in response to the needs of volunteers in the CCAR recovery community centers. They asked for more training to better handle the variety of scenarios and situations generated from recoverees who frequented the centers. This included engagement and communication skills. When graduates returned from the academy, they started calling themselves “recovery coaches”.

Peer Coach Accreditation Package
Recovery Coaches and Peer Specialists have become an integral part of many effective recovery organization. PCA supports this professional evolution and suggest a 60 hour training menu that includes 32 hours CCAR Recovery Coach Academy, 12 hour Ethical Considerations, 12 hours Professionalism for Coaches, 6 hours Medication Supported Recovery. Other options for the 60 hour credentials are listed below. PCA provides the required education hours for at least 3 nationally recognized accreditations

PCA supports 3 professional accreditation programs for peer coaches:
1) CCAR Recovery Coach (RCP) Professional Designation- 60 hours, a verbal test, an ethics exam - $195 renewable every 2 years www.ccar.us

3) NAADAC - Minimum of 60 contact hours of peer recovery focused training to include education in documentation, community/family education, case management, Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC). www.naadac.org/NCPRSS
