Description
Bluestocking Theatre Company presents our debut production with a BANG! Chicago the Musical is a story of murder, greed, corruption, exploitation, and treachery. Based on a 1920’s play by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins, Chicago is based off of real criminals in Chicago of the time. The satirical nature of the musical and its commentary on the “celebrity criminal” still applies to society today.
Get ready to root for deceit over decency. Roxie Hart, a Vaudeville wannabe, kills her lover and finds herself in the notorious "Murderess Row" at Cook County Jail. Here she meets Velma Kelly, famous actress/singer who committed a double homicide yet her future on the stage is still bright. Roxie, on her path to acquittal, must learn to to play the corrupt judicial system with the help of star lawyer Billy Flynn. The show hinges on the fact that it relies on theatrical
razzle-dazzle to sell its coldly cynical story of two
murderesses who manipulate the lurid press coverage of their crimes into vaudeville careers.
