Cynthia Catania will be embarking on her first-ever solo appearances in Ireland, starting with warm-up’s in Los Angeles CA. She’ll carry her sampler pedals overseas to the Irish shores, before joining her pals for a string of dates on the SongwritersOnTapmini-tour with Naimee Coleman (Aurora, Robin Gibb), Sylvie Lewis (Greys Anatomy), and Saucy Monky bandmates, Annmarie Cullen (So Weird_The Disney Channel) and Adam Marcello (Katy Perry, American Idol). Cynthia’s first international solo tour brought her to Australia in 2014, opening for Monique Brumby.
Her first single “Phones” drops worldwide July 24th.
On Sunday, Sept 15 Cynthia takes contol of the Central Arts stage. Cynthia’s journey as a lifelong musician, singer-songwriter and performer started young. She honed her skill set with her many collaborators starting in the basements of New Jersey, to the clubs of
New York City, to her brave move west when she landed in Los Angeles with two suitcases and a guitar she won at a radio contest.
A natural-born singer, she taught herself how to play guitar at open mics like Highland Grounds, The Crooked Bar andGround Zero (Hollywood venues) till she met Dublin born Annmarie Cullen. The songwriting team started their international indie-pop band Saucy Monky in late 2001. The quartet went on to chart in Ireland and tour there many times in support of their debut Celebrity Trash , and follow upTurbulence (released in the US via 429/ Warner Bros and Measured Records in Scotland). Saucy Monky’s success brought the girls onto festival stages with heroes The Cure, PJ Harvey, Wilco, Pink, The B-52’s, Metric, Marianne Faithful and more!
The LA Times said this about the band: “Saucy Monky shares a lot of the qualities of pop’s classic female-fronted bands — Irrepressible melodicism and smart lyrics...”
After her uber-successful run with Saucy Monky, which included film and TV placement success, a theme song on ABC daytime, Cynthia joined the Los Angeles power trioTheSecret Things. Always a pulse on the European market, the band was picked up by Sweden’s Loud Kult records in 2018 and released a set of singles and the EPShock Diary . Last October, TST released the #metoo inspired track Keeper on Loud Kult with distribution via The Orchard. The band made three provocative music videos culminating with their cover of PJ Harvey’sDown By The Water - kickstarting a series of benefits to support the Transgender community in LA.
Last year, Cynthia was invited by editor Niall Stokes to write a guest column for Hot Press Magazine. Saucy Monky were media darlings and often found themselves in the pages of this prestigious music mag, akin to Rolling Stone in the states.
