Description
Sweeping political change has become the norm in Latin America, where incumbent political parties have seen decisive electoral defeats, including in the three largest countries in the region—Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico. Venezuela’s presidential crisis is ongoing, as Nicolas Madruo and Juan Guaido, both claim victory and powerful allies in their competing claims. Do the 2018 elections indicate that Latin Americans are beginning to lose faith in democracy, establishment parties, and institutions – and will 2019 deliver more rejection of the status quo? Join the World Affairs Council for a discussion on the future of democracy in LatinAmerica with Michael Camilleri, Director of the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, and Dr. Roberto Dondisch, former Head Consul at the Mexican Consulate in Seattle and current Principal at INTIVIS consulting. Barbara Olagaray, Senior Director of Global Affairs at Microsoft, will moderate the discussion.
