In 1836, German composer and pianist Norbert Burgmüller died at the age of 26. Robert Schumann, who had been born in the same year as Burgmüller, wrote of his recently deceased colleague: "Since the early death of Schubert, nothing more deplorable has happened than [the early death] of Burgmüller." Diderot String Quartet celebrates the friendship of Schumann and Burgmüller with a program that features both composers' first-published chamber works: Burgmüller's String Quartet no. 1 in D minor, op. 4, and Schumann's Piano Quintet in Eb major, op. 44. For the Schumann,Diderot String Quartet is joined by renowned fortepianist David Breitman.
