Description
St. Paul’s Centre in downtown Orillia will be the epicentre of a raucous collision of alt-rock and twang on March 28 when Union Duke brings its explosive live show to the final concert in the Mariposa in Concert (MIC) 2019-20 season.
“In 2014, Union Duke earned a spot at that year’s Mariposa Folk Festival through the annual Mariposa Showcase,” MIC Chair Pam Carter said. “A group spokesman said that festival was a huge milestone in their careers. Since then, we’ve welcomed them back for other performances, the most recent being the 2019 festival.”
Tickets are $30 advance (all fees and taxes included) and are available online at mariposafolk.com or at the Mariposa Foundation office, 10 Peter Street South, Orillia. Tickets at the door will be $35.
The show is on Saturday, March 28 at St. Paul’s Centre, 62 Peter Street North in downtown Orillia. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. and the show starts at 8 p.m.
Bridging soulful indie rock with bluegrass and country, the group belts out soaring harmonies with three, four, and even five voices. The songs are irresistible, the perfect fit for the heatwave of the dance hall or the cool breeze of the park.
With three albums, countless festival stages, and hundreds of thousands of kilometers in the rear-view, the band is excited to be touring new music and winning new fans everywhere they go.
“Union Duke just seems to have this golden aura about them. It’s hard to explain. Known for their exuberant live shows, this urban string band fuses bluegrass harmony, banjo, and stompin’ bass with two ringing lead singers and a rock guitar into a tight-knit whole.”– The Walleye
