FAREWELL REGENT | 90 Minutes | Documentary | English | Canada
In a documentary that charts the complex canvas of Regent Park, Christene Browne puts a human face on the unique tensions and fellowships of the country’s most infamous social housing project.
...
All eyes are on Regent Park as one of the world’s foremost experiments in mixed income housing, but many forget the community’s long history of transformation. With interviews from its oldest residents, as well as its newest, this documentary weaves a vital tapestry of the hope and skepticism that surrounds the latest revitalisation.
Unit Manager, Barry Thomas takes us on a walk through the neighbourhood, sharing fascinating anecdote after anecdote, painting a picture of how the many diverse people of the community have organised themselves. Meanwhile, the many other community members all have their own opinions of what the future of Regent Park is, as Browne drums up difficult conversations on gentrification, crime, and segregation.
Farewell Regent eschews the storied violence of the community to focus on the activism and resilience that has always been in the DNA of its people.
