Join us for a special screening of “In the Hour of Chaos: Hip Hop Art & Activism with Public Enemy’s Chuck D” which highlights the transformative power of Hip Hop with some of the nation’s most insightful thinkers on the art form’s social, cultural, and political significance. Guided by Chuck D himself, the film tells the story of how artists, activists, and academics came together at UCLA to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop cultural history. The screening will be followed by a discussion with H. Samy Alim, Professor of Anthropology and Faculty Director of the UCLA Hip Hop Initiative, with co-leads Tabia Shawel and Samuel Lamontagne; Joan Morgan, Ph.D., Program Director, The Center for Black Visual Culture at New York University; and Bryonn Bain, prison activist, artist, scholar, actor, Hip Hop theater innovator, Spoken Word poetry champion, and UCLA professor; Moderated by Schyler O'Neal, Manager of Education & Community Engagement at the GRAMMY Museum.
