Mushrooms don't have to be so complicated. Fungi Jon will show you the way! This comprehensive immersion into the world of mushroom identification features a full indoor class workshop, as well as an outdoor mushroom walk for full integration. Anyone with a love for nature is encouraged to join and learn about the fascinating world of fungi. Suitable for beginners and intermediate mushroomers.
Students will be introduced to and gain an understanding of mycology concepts, the importance of mushrooms in forest ecosystems, human uses of mushrooms, fungal taxonomy, descriptive terminology, methods of identification, proper collection/preservation techniques, major groups of mushrooms, common genera & species, edible and medicinal mushrooms, toxic and deadly mushrooms, reference resources, mushroom photography, and more. Images of mushrooms from Central Florida will be shown in addition to dried and/or live specimens which will be examined and described by the class. Participants will take on a guided mushroom hunt, where finds will be discussed and examined by the class. Be sure to wear closed-toe shoes and pants for the outdoor portion of this class. Local reference books, identification tools, and other mushroom goods will be available for purchase.
If you enjoy this class and love to learn about mushrooms, an additional mushroom foray will be held on June 8 starting at 9 AM until done. You must pre-register to attend this additional foray at www.universe.com/foray2019

Questions
What is the cost? Registration costs $30 for TLNC members and $40 for non-members.
How should I dress for the workshop? Dress comfortably. You will be both inside and outside doing different activities. It is always suggested that you wear close-toed shoes and long pants for outdoor portion of the class since you will be going off trail.
What should I bring with me? Because TLNC is primarily a wetland area, you might want to bring bug spray in case of mosquitoes. You might also want to bring a hat, sun screen, pencil or pen and paper.
How do I find Trout Lake Nature Center? TLNC is located at 520 East CR 44 in Eustis. There are several roads named 44 in the area and often GPS or smart phone maps have TLNC located incorrectly. TLNC is one half mile east of the intersection of SR 19 and CR 44 (this intersection has a Publix, Winn Dixie, Burger King and Walgreens) at the northern end of Eustis. You will see our sign on the south side of the road.
Will my cell phone work at Trout Lake Nature Center? Some cell phones only work in the parking lot area. Because of our metal buildings many cell phones do not work inside the buildings. The land line for TLNC is 352-357-7536 and can be used for emergencies.
Can I get a refund if I can't attend? Refunds are not typically given unless a catastrophic life event happens because of the costs already incurred and efforts expended. We do request that you notify us if you can't attend so we can offer your spot to someone on the waiting list or you can transfer the ticket to someone else.
Any requests for refunds can be made in writing or by email (tlnc.director@gmail.com) with the reason why you feel a refund is appropriate.
