Fridge does Frida: Fridge Art Fair NYC- Art Week
Fridge Does Frida -- Frieze Satellite Returns to Brooklyn With a Viva Kahlo Theme
Nu Hotel Hosts Again! April 30 - May 5 & Introducing “Virtual Fridge”
“Nothing is worth more than laughter. It is strength to laugh and to abandon oneself, to be light. Tragedy is the most ridiculous thing.” -- Frida Kahlo
Always the Fair to err on the side of not taking itself too seriously, Fridge Art Fair is pleased to honor the verve and vision of the great Frida Kahlo concurrent with the final days of the exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, encompassing both May Day (day one of the Fridge Art Fair) and Cinco de Mayo. Kicking off with The Fridge Art Fair: Frozen “Marga-Frida:” Si! Se! Puede! Viva La Grande Gala presented by the Gowanus Swim Society (www.gowanusswimsociety.com) between 6:00-9:00pm on Monday April 30th. The Fair continues through Sunday, May 5th at the NU Hotel, 85 Smith Street (Atlantic Avenue). Hours and additional events will be announced at: www.FridgeArtFair.com.
Fridge Art Fair Founder and Artist Eric Ginsburg (http://worldoferic.com) is well known for his unique painting style, with cats and dogs as his usual subject. This year his Fridge team is joined by NU Hotel curator Natalie Fisk as Director, and the staff of metro Washington DC’s Kyo Gallery, all of whom comprise the selection committee along with guest curators. For the first time, all applicants to the Fair will be represented in “Virtual Fridge,” a digital presentation onsite and online, and all Fair artists will have the option to participate in ongoing online sales after the Fair.
“I must fight with all my strength so that the little positive things that my health allows me to do might be pointed toward helping the revolution. The only real reason for living.” – Frida Kahlo
About Fridge Art Fair:
Inspired by founder Eric Ginsburg’s desire to give visibility to more worthy artists at key magnet times and locations, Fridge Art Fair (the name is a play on Frieze) was born in 2013 at Lower East Side’s historic first gallery, Kazuko Miyamoto’s Gallery 128,. The boutique, soft sell, dog-friendly satellite fair once dubbed by Artinfo as "the baby who has refused to obey orders to stand outside the door while the adults confabulate inside," presents annual editions in Miami and New York.
