Description
The Gervais Street Bridge Dinner is a celebration of what we have in common, what we treasure, and what we're doing to sustain it.
For the first time in Columbia’s history, a thousand people, including 200 first responders as honored guests, dined al fresco on the Gervais Street Bridge. The dinner became a healing event for the flood ravaged cities of Forest Acres, West Columbia, Cayce, and Columbia, as guests applauded the tenacity and bravery of its first responders.
The Gervais Street Bridge Dinner was conceived as a celebration of two cities, distinguished by the powerful Congaree River, a waterway vital to the Midland’s ecosystem, and united by the most iconic landmark in the Midlands, the Gervais Street Bridge. The event benefitted three local charities, the Congaree Riverkeeper, Canoeing for Kids, and Harvest Hope Food Bank. The 2016 bridge dinner will add a fourth beneficiary, Heroes in Blue, a non-profit founded by Kassy Alia, whose husband, Forest Acres Officer Greg Alia, died in the line of fire days before the flood. Heroes in Blue is dedicated to bridging the gap between police and the communities they serve.
This spectacular event is a celebration of the real Midlands and Soda Citizens writ large, with live music and performances, local artists, and a dinner in courses, with cocktails, beer, wine, and water.
So come join us for the 2016 Gervais Street Bridge Dinner, a seated, sunset, Sunday supper for 1,000 people on October 23rd from 4pm to 8pm. Rain date October 30th.
