Description
In Gethsemane, we see Christ at his most human. At the same time, it is a moment of profound psychological and mythological significance. For the essential part of the Christian myth is Christ’s self-sacrifice on the cross, symbolizing a perilous surrender of ego to the mother unconscious where life can be renewed and transformed. We may have had similar moments in our own lives, moments where we knew that we had an opportunity to grow more fully into whom we were meant to be, but that were painful, that we wished to turn away from. In this workshop, we will examine the archetypal significance of Christ’s sacrifice in the Garden, and then will explore similar themes in a fairy tale and the life of a contemporary young man as told in a radio interview.Lisa Marchiano, LCSW is a Jungian analyst in private practice in NW Philadelphia, and a faculty member of the Philadelphia Jung Institute.PAJA/Philadelphia Jung Institute hosts Public Programs for all who are eager to explore and be enriched by the ideas of Carl Jung and analytical psychology for their personal and professional development.
