This full weekend workshop (10am - 6pm Saturday and 10am - 4pm Sunday) shares best practices and lessons learned throughout 30 years of experience, while also recognizing that each community is unique and each group needs to decide what approach makes the most sense for its specific location and situation. The Getting it Built workshop is an efficient and necessary step providing participants a clear overview of the Cohousing development process and the tools necessary to effectively plan your community's next steps. LEARN HOW TO: Organize your group Work together efficiently Effectively make decisions Build and grow your community Define your role, the group's role and the role of professionals Raise the money to make your community a reality GET VITAL GUIDANCE FOR: Finding and optioning a site Planning and designing Working through city approvals Hiring and managing construction professionals GET CLARITY ON: Financial realities (costs) Investment structures (raising money) Budgeting and timelines Financing options Ownership structures Getting your money in and out What your next steps are to success WORKSHOP FEE The early bird cost per person is $750 ($1,350 per couple) + HST until November 30th. Regular price there after is $850 ($1,450 per couple) + HST. The fee includes the Getting it Built workshop, workshop materials, lunch both days and light refreshments throughout the weekend.*Direct e-transfer can also be used to save the transaction fee (HST must still be paid). LOCATION Both days of the workshop will take place at the Community Venue located at 708 Annette St., Unit 2 (entrance on Willard), Toronto, Ontario. Please note that the venue is wheel chair accessible. GETTING TO THE VENUE The closest TTC subway station is Jane Street on the Bloor Line (approximately a 15-20 minute walk or 2 minute drive). Buses 26, 35, 55 and 335 all stop at the corner of Jane St and Annette St departing from the Jane TTC Station. Street parking is available around the venue. ACCOMMODATIONS If you are looking for accommodations using AirBNB we suggest Bloor West Village, High Park and the Junction neighbourhoods as the closest. Anywhere on the west end near the TTC Bloor Subway line should be comfortable and even hotels downtown if you are taking TTC transit should be ok. If you are driving there are reasonably priced options out near the airport but you will be away from what most would consider the real Toronto experience and you may need to account for more travel time though on the weekend it shouldn't be too bad. **We are talking to local participants and friends (we are trying to build community after all!) to see if they would be willing to host others from out of town.
