The Savoy Theatre has a surprising history, with the site being occupied as far back as the 1700's! The building has had a large variety of uses throughout the years. with the building that we see today being constructed in 1832. The current building was constructed on top the foundations of The Bell Inn, which was used for a variety of theatrical performances. Originally called The Assembly Rooms, The Savoy went through several refurbishments and refits in the decades after it's construction, being called the town's Corn Exchange, Flannel Exchange, Oddfellow's Hall, The Living Picture Palace and The Magic Lantern Theatre just to name a few! just imagine the amount of souls that have passed through this location over the years.There have been several ghost sightings and reports over the years, the location has been investigated before with mischievous children, actors, ushers and even a serial killer making themselves known.
