This is a panel moderated by Carel Pedre, Founder Chokarella Brooklyn now has more than 90,000 Haitian-Americans, giving it the third highest concentration in the country. The flag says "L'union Fait la force" which means Unity is Power, yet the nation itself has been struggling to keep this togetherness due to mounting sociopolitical instability, gang violence and foreign influence in the country's government. Approaching 220 years of independence, Haiti’s rich arts, culture and diaspora is the engine that keeps hope alive for the country's future. Carel Pedre, Haiti's most respected arts and culture media personality, will sit to talk with the Haitian-Americans elected in NYC/ NYS government and leading educators about the importance of arts, culture, education and civic engagement to bring the power and unity of the Haitian people in New York and beyond.
