In the ever-expanding indie music landscape, Post-Modern Connection has carved a unique space for themselves with their particular blend of indie rock meets jazz rejects, meets surf rock, held together by soulful, crooning vocals and infectious instrumentals. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Summer Salt, Hippocampus, Peach Pit, and Vacations their sound has captivated audiences and critics alike. In November 2023, Post-Modern Connection unveiled their Sophomore EP, “A Welcome Change,” a sonic journey that received critical acclaim from CBC, Much Music, Exclaim, The Georgia Straight, and Range Magazine. A Welcome Change feels like a coming of age project in the way it’s captured the feeling of transitioning from the carefreeness of youth and nostalgic beginnings to stepping into the world as your own person. Neighbourly Instagram | Artist Links Vancouver Island’s Neighbourly weds the freedom of psychedelia with layers of pop and funk influences. The group, which debuted in 2022, features four multi-instrumentalist songwriters: Latham, Lauren, Ollie, and Scott. Their self-titled debut album was released by Earth Libraries in October 2023, which showcases their cohesive style and diverse influences, with each member contributing two tracks to the project. This year they have released two EPs, each embracing distinct vibes as a deliberate challenge to explore genres beyond their usual stylings. “Outside 311” reflects Neighbourly’s take on post-punk, and “Alla Discoteca” is inspired by disco from around the world and Lauren’s exploration of the Italian language. Mother Sun Instagram | Artist Links Mother Sun create melodic and adventurous rock n roll from the sprawling interior desert of Kamloops BC Canada. The four piece has shaped their sound while burrowing in realms of dream pop, psychedelia, jazz, surf, folk, garage rock and more. Their upcoming 2024 record ‘Meadow 6’ showcases their continued exploration of innovative genre bending sound and arrangement. Mother Sun has toured western Canada consistently since 2018, appearing at numerous festivals such as Khatsalano, Between the Peaks, and Treefort (Boise, Idaho), sharing stages with Dead Ghosts, Vinyl Williams, the Sadies, the Breathing Effect and Ghostwoman. Mother Sun is Jared Doherty (vocals, guitar), Milio Pagnotta (guitar, vocals), Alex Ward (keys, bass, synth) and Jared Rinaldi (drums, percussion). We acknowledge and respect the W̱SÁNEĆ and lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory we live on as uninvited guests. The Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day, have stewarded this land since time immemorial. We owe this land, and these peoples, our respect, gratitude & dedication to learning & decolonizing ourselves & the spaces we exist in.
