Description
Peggy Lee, Billie Holiday, Betty Carter and Abbey Lincoln weren’t just great jazz vocalists – they were also songwriters, who contributed some key works to the canon. In Women’s Words, Sisters Stories, vocalist Ineza and the Alex Webb Trio explore the repertoire penned by the great female songstresses – Billie’s Tell Me More, Peggy’s It’s a Good Day, Betty Carter's Tight, Abbey’s Throw it Away and many more, including poet Fran Landesman’s classic lyric Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most. And bringing it up to date are songs by Jazzmeia Horn, Cecile Mclorin Salvant and Rachelle Ferrell.
With the exception of MD/pianist Alex Webb, the group is all female: Myra Brownbridge (bass), Sophie Alloway (drums) and special guest Rosie Turton (trombone).
Ineza's star is rising rapidly in the world of Jazz. A Rwandan-born Belgian vocalist, Ineza has firmly established herself as a powerful and expressive artist on the UK Jazz scene.
