Islington is a unique heritage property of historic, cultural and architectural significance. Adjoining the former Kensington Property Exchange, Islington is an extraordinarily intact example of a late 19th century shop/office and residence, with brick stable and coach house at the rear. Built by local realtor James Wales – who went on to become Mayor of Flemington – Islington has served as a Kensington landmark since its construction in 1891. The building was designed by Edward Owen Hughes, a local architect who designed many shops and houses in the Kensington area. It was used as a set in television shows Carson's Law and The Sullivans, and was the first property to fetch $1 million when it sold in 2004.
