KAMOME DINER
Approximately 10 hours flight from Tokyo, Finland is the closest European country from Japan. “Kamome Diner” was shot and born there. Known for its midnight sun, Helsinki is a seaport in which seagulls fly and passenger liners come and go. Small, but with presence, Kamome Diner—run by Japanese woman Sachie—stands in the city’s street corner. The film unfolds at this diner, while highlighting people who are more than eager to give a hand to each other’s vital soul.
SUMODO
Japan's first sumo documentary movie. This is a documentary film that chased after sumo wrestlers who dedicated their lives to sumo, such as severe rituals, spiritual trainings, fellowships, and a fight for life. Following two wrestlers intimately for six months is the documentary's way of examining the lifestyle, motivations, intentions and aspirations of sumo wrestlers and also gives air to the tradition, heritage and connection of the sport to Japan, its country of origin.
★ Hosted in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh & The Japan Foundation.
