On the day the nuclear bombs drop, two boys are stuffed in a bunker and abandoned. They grow up in their underground prison with only pulp novels to keep them company, so by the time they find a way out they’ve turned into two adults that go by the name Philip Chandler (John Stockwell) and Marlowe Hammer (Mr. AMERICAN NINJA himself – Michael Dudikoff) who dream of being private eyes. They head out into the wasteland for the first time without any clue what may await them, but they have a slick car, nice suits, and the hope that they’ll stumble onto some juicy mysteries. What’s the worst that could happen to two clueless detectives running head-on into an irradiated world populated with murderous mutants?
A one of a kind rock ‘n roll science fiction noir from Laser Blast favourite Albert Pyun (NEMESIS), RADIOACTIVE DREAMS cleverly mixes aw-shucks enthusiasm with the neon-coloured world of post-apocalyptic 80s cinema. Pyun had struck a box office hit with his first film THE SWORD AND SORCERER and this second outing is a filmmaker swinging for the fences as if it was his last chance! There’s explosive car chases, a giant rat monster, slow-motion gunfights, and out of nowhere musical numbers performed by musicians like Sue Saad, Lisa Lee, Shari Saba and Lynn Carey!
Never released on DVD in North America, The Laser Blast Film Society is proud to present RADIOACTIVE DREAMS on the big screen from beautiful 35mm film print. The film is a riotous cascade of stylish colours, so it’s a real shame that it’s only been available on video in washed out fullscreen transfers on home video to this day. Don’t miss your chance to see the film the way it was meant to be experienced!
