Let's Talk About: Shortform Video
BPI would like to welcome you to the first of our 2022 Insight Sessions. Let's Talk About: Shortform Video will take place Monday 25th July 2022, 4-5pm, on Zoom Webinar.
The event will comprise of two panels, each exploring a different aspect of shortform video.
Tips and Tricks of The Trade: this panel will look at how shortform video can be used as a tool in building successful artist marketing campaigns, as well as building online communities and reaching fans in creative ways. We will be hearing from Corbyn Asbury, Label Relations Manager YouTube; Danielle Barnes, Head of Creative Blackstar Agency, who has worked with clients including ADA, AWAL, PIAS, Sony Music, Concord, Decca, EMI, Glassnote, Rough Trade, and many more; Francesca Harvey, Global Director of Audience Development at Partisan Records—home to IDLES, Fontaines D.C., Fela Kuti, Cigarettes After Sex, Laura Marling, and more; and Marc Brown, who is the founder of Byta, and whose deep music business background and digital audio knowledge has helped him deliver unique insights to audiences from Tallinn to Toronto.
Behind the Scenes of the Viral Superstar: As the media continues to focus on the role of platforms like YouTube in ‘breaking artists’, we explore the realities of scouting and A&R in the age of shortform video, the sometimes ‘hidden’ role that labels play in the meteoric rise of the viral video music star, and the future role of record labels and managers as intrinsic to any artists’ success, no matter where they have found fame. We delve behind the scenes, speaking to labels and managers about the role (and benefits) that labels still play, what has changed about more traditional A&R and scouting roles, and what managers and labels can do to protect artists from digital overwhelm. Managers Damian Morgan, Head of Careers and Industry at BIMM, and who also manages The Orielles amongst other artists; and Stella Reid, Artist Manager and CoFounder of Rough Bones, an exciting boutique, independent artist development hub and management service. Stella is a passionate advocate for the independent sector with a keen interest in creating more opportunities for start-up Independent Labels and artists as well as for minorities within the music industry. They are joined by Kali Bradford, Director of Business Development (SyncVault), who will be touching on the opportunities for sync within shortform video platforms, and Malena Wolfer, Head of Artist Services (believe), who brings a unique 360 degree perspective on artist mental health, digital overwhelm, A&R and marketing benefits around shortform, for this interesting and timely debate.
Both panels will be moderated by the wonderful Christine Osazuwa, Founder of Measure of Music and the UK Director for shesaid.so. She has spent her career working globally at the intersection of music & tech at companies ranging from major labels to music startups.
The event is free for BPI Members.
