THE PRICE OF FEAR: A CONVERSATION ABOUT WHAT SCARES US & WHAT HEALS US
Rev. Victoria Price, Inspirational Speaker, Author, and daughter of Vincent Price, the Master of Menace.
Scientists tell us that the average human being spends almost seven years of their life worrying about something. Scientists also tell us that 85% of what we worry about never transpires. This means we waste almost a tenth of our lifespans anxious or afraid about something that never happens!
What are the consequences of this? A skyrocketing rate of addiction, suicide, and depression may be the most obvious — but far more subtle are the ways in which we construct our individual lives and our institutional world to placate our fantastical fears.
Time to take a lesson from horror movies. . .
In this entertaining and thought-provoking talk and Q&A, Victoria Price shares the lessons she learned about the power of the human imagination, the freedom that comes when we face down our fears, and ultimately, the healing power of choosing love over fear.
Get ready to be engaged by this entertaining and relevant conversation inspired by audio and visual clips from Gothic tales to Classic Horror to the current horror landscape.
We invite you to dress for the Halloween season inspired by what scares you — and to join this important conversation about horror and healing, fear and love.
A book signing will follow the Q&A.
Victoria Price brings her unique story to the national and international stage as an author, inspirational speaker, blogger, designer, artist & art consultant, and interspiritual & interfaith minister. Following in her father's footsteps, Victoria has become a popular speaker on inspirational topics ranging from the daily practice of joy, how finding your magic word can change your life, living your legacy of yes, wildflowering your way back whole, making peace with our past stories to expand our creative futures, the role of the arts in society, as well as the life of her famous father, Vincent Price, and a range of topics on interior & industrial design. In 2012, Victoria was invited to be a TedX speaker, giving the talk, Tell Me What Do You Have in the House.
Over the past twenty years, Victoria has spoken around the world to audiences, who have enjoyed her ease, erudition, and inspiration in sharing her enthusiasm for living a joy-filled life. Victoria's popular blog, Daily Practice of Joy, chronicles the journey back to joy which began in 2011 -- the year in which the world celebrated the 100th birthday of her father, Vincent Price, with Vincentennial celebrations around the globe.
In 2016, after living in Santa Fe, New Mexico, for a quarter century, Victoria embarked on an ongoing journey of intentional homelessness, chronicled in her new inspirational memoir, The Way of Being Lost: A Road Trip to My Truest Self (Ixia Press/Dover 2018). Her critically-acclaimed biography of her father, Vincent Price: A Daughter’s Biography, was published in 1999 by St Martin’s Press. A brand new edition commemorating the 25th anniversary of her dad’s passing, with a new preface by Roger Corman and a never-before-read essay on the paranormal by Vincent Price is being released in October 2018 by Dover Publications.
The Monday night “Lobby Series” showcases local artists performing music, dance, spoken word, and other art forms for 100-125 guests in our Grand Foyer. With few stages uptown, the series is an important way for local artists to share work with neighbors and try out new material. Donations are appreciated and proceeds go to United Palace's programs.
