This walk is only suitable for the physically able-bodied as the route up to McCaig's Tower involves either 144 steps via Jacob's Ladder - a local short cut from the town centre - or a steep uphill walk via Craigard Road as McCaig's is located on Battery Hill. However, the climb is well worth it as the views are spectacular and the gardens within are a tranquil spot for a rest after your exertions! Your tour guide will lead you from North Pier with a couple of short stops before the cliff side staircase and the crowning glory dominating the Oban skyline. Your guide will share the history of the tower, McCaig's family, his life and legacy and a little about the islands that you can see from the viewing platform. From there the walk will descend back down to the Esplanade and finish at the War Memorial. Access to Oban's Cathedrals en route will be subject to service times.
