Michael Vertolli is a Western traditional herbalist who has been practicing since 1986. He is the founder and
director of Living Earth School of Herbalism, which offers in-class and online classes and workshops and a clinical
diploma program in Western herbal medicine. Michael developed Four Elements Herbal Therapy, a system of
Western herbalism that integrates modern European and North American traditions within the broader holistic and
spiritual paradigm of traditional earth-centred healing traditions. He has been hosting herbal medicine retreats at The Seed Lodge for the last 8 years.
As the use of medicinal herbs increases in popularity, a growing number of people are learning how to identify and
wild harvest herbs. The benefits of wild harvesting can be very profound as it provides an opportunity to deepen
our relationship with the herbs and Nature, which is a very important part of the healing process. However, as
more people engage in wild harvesting, the potential of negatively impacting wild plant populations significantly
increases. Many formerly common medicinal plants have become rare or endangered due to over-harvesting. It is
therefore important that we harvest wild herbs in an ethical and respectful way. In this lecture we will explore how
we can wild harvest medicinal herbs in a way that helps us to be in good relationship with the plants and the their
habitat.
