Description
Monash Peninsula Accommodation is a 150-bed student apartment building designed by Jackson Clements Burrows to utilise cross-laminatedtimber (CLT) construction and target Passive House certification. It is the largest project in Australia to combine both ambitious agendas. The building is the first to be delivered under the new Masterplan for Monash Peninsula and will be ‘Net Zero Ready’ in response to the University’s comprehensive Net Zero Initiative. The latter seeks to ensure that by 2030, all Monash energy consumption will be electric and from renewable sources. The building therefore incorporates an all-electric design and rooftop solar, and will dramatically reduce operating carbon. Landscapes designed by Glas Urban will include water-sensitive urban design, notably rainwater harvesting and the creation of a landscaped dry creek bed that will accommodate stormwater flows during high rain events and which connects into the natural waterways of the campus. The building is designed as a sustainable, enduring piece of architecture that is engaged with the distinct topography, identity and landscape of Monash Peninsula. It will open in early 2019.
