Syria meets Italy. Join us for a taste sensation! As part of the Refugee Food Festival, Mo of Mo's Eggs is teaming up with Venetian restaurant and bar, OMBRA, on Sunday 16th June! Together they have created an Italian-Syrian menu for you to indulge in on Hackney’s canal side. It’s going to be pretty special. Mo's cooking is inspired by his upbringing in the spectacularly beautiful, fertile mountain town of Ain al-Fijah in southern Syria. Every fresh vegetable, fruit and herb you could imagine grew on the doorstep, and people came together to cook, share and enjoy this food together. OMBRA is East London’s take on a Venetian baraco - small plates, great wines - which specialises in homemade pasta recipes using seasonal produce from Italy and selected British farmers. Come and feast on an irresistibly delicious mezze of ghanoush with a twist, hummus, stuffed vine leaves and spring onion salad drizzled in pomegranate, followed by homemade tagliatelle with slow roasted lamb and preserved lemon or whipped feta ravioli, with spinach & pistachio for your main, and last but not least; Italian gelato with baklava and Syrian coffee. There will be sittings at 12noon and 12.30, 2pm and 2.30pm, 4pm Tickets - £25 + booking fees + *charity donation* We will be giving a 50% of the profits to charity, one of which is TERN, who are very close to our hearts. You can also add a donation when you buy your ticket. Just add on your donation to the ticket price when you select the number of tickets you want to buy. RFF is an annual event, taking place in 15 cities simultaneously, during which restaurant owners open their kitchens to refugee chefs. The objective is to change perceptions around refugees, foster socio-professional integration of the refugee chefs, and unite citizens around the dinner table. Who are TERN & why are we supporting them? TERN - The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network - is an ambitious social enterprise enabling refugees to thrive through the power of their own ideas. They do this through targeted business support for refugee entrepreneurs, and have built up a community of more than 100 entrepreneurs in London since 2017. Mo is currently part of this summer's cohort for their ICE Academy programme that works with early-stage entrepreneurs combining expert mentoring, business development workshops and a paid part-time summer job.
