Discover the various ways of binding your own books using minimal materials and tools at a bookmaking workshop with artist and graphic designer Elyssia Lasala. Using a needle and thread, participants will be introduced to different bookmaking techniques such as: the coptic stitch, saddle stitch, and stab book binding. Participants will also gain insight on when to use one technique over another. Participants will leave with their own handmade books, and the knowledge to create books using sustainable materials that can be recycled or composted as alternatives to chemical adhesives.
In addition to learning about bookmaking techniques, this workshop will also encourage you to flex your creative writing muscles and write six-word stories for submission to the My City My Six project!
