Description
Please join OCA-NY at our 43rd Anniversary Community Service & Leadership Awards Gala to be held at Royal Seafood Restaurant, 103 Mott St, New York, New York, on Friday evening, September 27, 2019 at 6 pm.
Our theme this year is "Celebrating Our Community Voices, Our Impact!” We are proud to honor outstanding individuals and an organization that has demonstrated sustained service in advocating and supporting the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community here in New York City.
We will be honoring the following outstanding individuals and organizations:
Professor Betty Lee Sung - OCA-NY Lifetime Achievement Award
NYC Human Rights Commissioner Carmelyn P. Malalis - OCA-NY Leadership Award
United Parcel Service (UPS) - OCA-NY Community Award
National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) - OCA-NY Community Award
OCA-NY has long been a voice for the community on issues of immigration, voting rights, civil rights, social justice, and many others. This past year, working with its partners, OCA-NY has advocated vigorously for the APA community by:
Advocating for immigrant communities by partnering with organizations, such as New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), on various efforts and rallies;
Coordinating immigration forums to provide proper information to marginalized communities in New York City;
Engaging in non-partisan efforts in support of ‘Get Out the Vote’ campaigns;
Partnering with APA VOICE, a voter engagement coalition to strengthen our community’s voice by organizing voter registration drives to register voters;
Participating in the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans’ (CAPA) annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Festival;
Organizing the OCA-FCC Asian Pacific American Women's Conference and Asian American in 2018 Conference with its sister chapters in NJ, Westchester/Hudson Valley, and Long Island, and Families with Children from China;
Engaging younger members of our community and to educate and inspire them to engage in issues involving civil rights, voting rights, and social justice; and
Working in coalition with many community organizations to plan, engage, and advocate for the APA community on a wide variety of issues.
Additionally, OCA-NY is celebrating its 13th year of collaborating with the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) and youth related partner organizations on its signature Hate Crimes Prevention Art Project, training diverse high school students in New York City on identifying and taking action against hate crimes and using various types of creative media to share how hate crimes have impacted their lives.
Our annual gala benefit is a celebratory evening that raises funds that will enable OCA-NY to maintain its vital role in advocating for our community. We invite you to join us on this very special, milestone occasion and support our work as a guest or sponsor through the many sponsor opportunities available.
We thank you for your consideration. Please feel free to contact Gala Chair, Danny Qiao, at dogqiao@gmail.com should you have any questions. OCA-NY looks forward to celebrating with you!
Sincerely,
Yan Sin, President, OCA-NY
