For the first time, Off The Record will be staging live music showcases which will allow for some of Scotland’s youngest and most exciting emerging talent to perform in a professional setting. For those attending OTR Edinburgh, the showcase will follow on from the daytime conference & entry is guaranteed with your ticket. Entry to just the showcase is free - tickets are limited to one per person/email address. DATE & VENUE17 NovemberThe Bongo ClubEdinburgh LINE-UPLAKYOTO Forming in early 2017, LaKyoto is representative of a new sound in ‘The Old City’. The band make electronic pop music with stomping drums, pounding sub-bass and colossal melodies. Arriving on the scene with nothing more than a short, enticing trailer, LaKyoto have caught the immediate intrigue of a city that has embraced the mystery and excitement surrounding the young quartet. Kyoto - the ‘thousand year capital’ of Japan - is known for its respect and preservation of pre-war architecture, much like Edinburgh’s old town. The name pays homage to the band’s hometown, whilst also impressing their desire to not only rise to the peak of British music, but across the globe. LaKyoto’s highly-anticipated debut single, ‘Runaway’, was released early 2017, followed by second single, ‘Heart Beats Loud’, in Spring 2018. The band’s latest single, ‘Something About You’, was released in Autumn 2018 and was met with support from Spotify’s New Pop Revolution playlist - amongst others - greatly increasing their growing fanbase. GLASSMASTERER Born Lewis Bigham in 1995, Glassmasterer is multi genre musician that seeks to subvert expectationsin the most interesting way possible. Officially becoming Glassmasterer in late 2016, he played his debut performance at Edinburgh's La Belle Angele and went on to release two twin EPs in early 2017 on Glasgow label Cat In The Attic, called Dabble and Deed. His songs Limbo. Paradiso., Neon Math and Old Biddy Sprint immediately caught the attention of BBC Radio presenters Vic Galloway, Nemone and Tom Ravenscroft, and he received airplay and acclaim from around the world, with Crack Magazine calling his Soundcloud exclusive track Winter Boots a "restrained, textured piece that imagines landscapes and atmospheres across it's beautifully crafted timbre.". His recently released single Last Chance To Make Plans which features Edinburgh based synth popduo Chuchoter received it's premiere on BBC Radio Scotland, and was then featured on AmazingRadio and in the publication The Scotsman, calling the track "an aural chop suey and one ofour favourite tracks of 2018.". THE MOTION POETS Formed by four friends who met on Edinburgh Napier University’s popular music course, The Motion Poets set out to challenge and develop its members’ musical ability and songwriting craft. Since their first gig in September 2016 the band have continued to change and develop their music to achieve their own unique sound. From fast paced indie on debut single ‘One Too Many’ to anthemic alt-rock on follow up “A Girl Like This”, The Motion Poets have since began to sculpt a sound that holds it ground in attitude driver guitar rock with several post-genre elements incorporating dance-laden drum grooves, atmospheric guitars and textural layered vocal harmonies. Since 2016 the band have played shows around Scotland and the UK including supporting ‘The Sherlocks’ in Edinburgh, 2 sold-out King Tut’s shows in Glasgow as main support (including King Tut’s New Year’s Revolution), a sold out support slot at London’s Dublin Castle as well as BBC at the Edinburgh Festivals 2017 and Stowed Out Festival 2018. ZOE GRAHAM There is an impressive maturity and attention to detail in Zoe Graham’s music that sets this accomplished young songwriter apart from her peers. On stage, you will find her either with band or fleshing out the instrumentation with loop pedals on solo outings. But when Zoe pares it back to just a vocal and acoustic guitar, as she does on the achingly poignant The Anniesland Lights (from her recent Hacket & Knackered EP), that is when you know you're in the company of someone very special indeed. Championed by Radio Scotland's Roddy Hart and with multiple Celtic Connections appearances to her name, Zoe Graham's understated charms will not stay below the radar for much longer.
