Instructor: Giovanna Paz
Giovanna Paz is a skilled artisan and a designer from Peru, where jewellery-making has a long and rich history. Peruvian culture is marked by a tradition of ornamentation, with siversmithing dating back to long before the Spanish conquest. In traditional culture, silver represented femininity and the moon, while gold represented masculinity and the sun, as evidenced by an old adage “The sun rains gold, the moon rains silver.”
Gio uses a technique of interlocking thin strands of precious metals in a crochet-like process; a method that is featured in jewelry stylings across her homeland. She has brought this technique to her adopted city of Toronto, infusing these concepts into her own personal style to craft a unique and enticing jewelry collection.
She strives for her collection to be elegant and versatile for any number of occasions.
