Description
The September Shelter Valley Concert Series concert features a double-bill concert of amazing local music. Series host Randy Stewart opens for a set and then introduces us to Oshawa singer-songwriter, Douglas MacKenzie.
A singer/songwriter with one album (More Love to Begin) and a recent single (Every Day) to his credit, Doug brings 50+ years of playing experience & a passion for music to every show. The 100-song request list he often brings, inviting audience interaction, includes favourites from 6 decades of hits.
Doug was recently asked about his perspective on his many years performing, in different theatres, so to speak, from choirs to now mostly solo shows:
"I am at the point in my musical journey, that I have an appreciation for what has been, and what may still be. I have re-visited songs that I did 40 years ago, and the resultant new arrangements are more satisfying than ever.
I want to get messages out to those who need them, while my voice is still capable of doing justice to the material I have found, or created."
Douglas MacKenzie is a self-taught musician with a unique finger style guitar method who’s striving always for meaningful, lasting messages that he can turn into song. His solo album ‘More Love to Begin’ - released in 2018 - features his acoustic version of the Weber Brothers’ ‘I Come From the Future’ along and his tribute and memorial to those lost in the Lac-Mégantic train disaster, ‘A Runaway Train’.
“It’s exciting to be able to present my songs in the listening room concert setting the Shelter Valley Concert Series offers.”
Randy Stewart is a Canadian singer/songwriter who has been performing professionally for more than 30 years. He has been seen on television, heard on radio and recorded by the CBC. His recordings can be found in the delete bins of some of the country’s finest record stores.
He has been crusading for years to purge love songs from his performances. His mantra – Sad Songs & Funny Songs ‘I DON’T PLAY LOVE SONGS’ – has become familiar to music fans throughout the region and lead him to seach for the unexpected songs found in the cannons of resistance and protest movements.
“There are a lot of performers out there singing about love and relationships – I’m just not one of ‘em”.
Pineapple Productions is extremely proud to present this exclusive concert as part of our 2023 Shelter Valley Concert Series.
The Shelter Valley Concert Series is a monthly series of concerts by area performers presented on the fourth Wednesday of each month from March to November at the Vernonville Community Centre in the heart of Shelter Valley.
PLEASE NOTE: Advance Tickets are available online only until midnight Tuesday, September 26. Advance Tickets are not available on the day of the show. At-the-door Tickets are $20 (cash only).
