Festival Afloat is back — grab a paddle for Indigenous Justice!
As a part of Festival Afloat 2023, RAVEN is weaving in a few land-based shows — including this exciting opportunity to see Logan Staats perform at the Victoria Event Centre! And don't miss Goldstepz closing the night with some hip hop and cool beats!
About Festival Afloat:
This summer, RAVEN is hosting a series of on-the-water and on-land benefit concerts to raise money for access to justice for Indigenous communities. All floating shows are viewable from shore, or paddle up to the sailboat stage by canoe, kayak or SUP.
Festival Afloat is a paddle-powered music festival and educational offering that brings together allied businesses and impassioned community members. Our goal? To raise funds and awareness for Indigenous Nations who are in court to protect the ocean and keep our coast clean!
Festival Afloat 2023 is supporting:
Heiltsuk Nation's Step Up for Coast Heroes
Heiltsuk Nation is taking Kirby — an oil shipping company — Canada, and British Columbia to court. In the wake of the catastrophic Nathan E. Stewart spill that spilled toxic fuels into Heiltsuk's marine harvesting areas, this Title case aims to enshrine Indigenous stewardship practices into law to toughen regulations about fossil fuel transport and protect marine ecosystems for future generations.
By attending Festival Afloat, you’re supporting Heiltsuk Nation to make sure that orcas, salmon, otters — and the coastal communities who care for them — continue to thrive.

About Logan Staats:
Mohawk singer-songwriter Logan Staats began as a diamond in the rough, and has become the gem of Indigenous folk-rock. Staats grew up in Brantford, Ontario with no formal musical training, just a good ear and raw lyrical talent. He played the local circuit for years before his 2015 debut release ‘Goodbye Goldia’, an unvarnished yet hard hitting folk album. He went on to win CTV’s ‘The Launch’ in 2018, gaining commercial success and touring across North America and Europe.
After all that, Staats decided to come home, making the intentional decision to re-root at Six Nations of the Grand River. “I wanted to bring my songwriting back to the medicine inside of music, to the medicine inside of reclamation,” he says. This is the philosophy behind his sophomore album ‘A Light In The Attic’. These songs are a healing salve, contemplatively composed and offered to listeners in need of comfort. His sound draws heavily from the rich blues and rock legacy of Six Nations. Nowadays, he splits his time between Six Nations and Vancouver Island, and everywhere in between.
