There he catches up with his friends - the group share funny stories about each other while drinking and enjoying the sunlight by the poolside. Shortly into the conversation, Ned realizes that there is a consistent series of swimming pools from there to his house, and he would be able to swim all the way back home. From there he begins his persistent journey to swim through every pool along the way, meeting several important people from his life and slowly revealing to the audience the true character behind Ned Merrill's dignified exterior. Frank and Eleanor Perry's The Swimmer holds a powerful lens on the main character, slowly breaking apart Ned Merrill to reveal a truth that cannot be expected.
