Description
DOUBLE FEATURE!
Rosie the Riveter
It’s January 1942, in the throes of World War II. Eddie, the owner of Eddie’s Auto Parts Factory in Cook County, Illinois, is struggling now that there is a freeze on the manufacturing of car parts. His secretary, Rosie, wonders if the factory can secure a government contract and be converted to make airplane parts instead— if only they can find the manpower. At a time when the radio and the mail were the main sources of information, and ration books were in every household, Rosie is willing to shed tradition, roll up her sleeves and do her part. She is chosen to become the iconic image that will inspire so many women workers to join the cause.
Based on the war efforts of American women in a dangerous factory, this play includes themes of war, death, and fighting for something you believe in, even if it means dying for the cause. Because this show deals with the effects of war on a community, including death, this play is rated PG, and recommended for ages 9+.
The Book of Everything
Thomas can see things no one else can see. He sees terrible hailstorms in the middle of the Amsterdam summer. He sees tropical fish, his favorite guppies, in the rivers and canals. He even sees the magic of Mrs. Van Amersfoort, the reading-loving witch next door, and the fierce beauty of Eliza with her artificial leg. But in his house, he also sees things that aren’t seen outside those walls: he sees his father hit his mother.
Thomas records all he believes, thinks, adores, and sees in his "Book of Everything." They comfort and they give him the strength to finally confront his father and become what he wants to be when he grows up:
"Happy."
Based on the popular Dutch children’s novel by Guus Kuijer (one of the Netherland’s most popular children’s authors), this Australian theatrical adaptation for young audiences shares the story of a young boy who uses an imaginary world to cope with an abusive father and the lengths an insightful neighbor will go to help the family.
