Description
Black film is a classification of film that has a broad definition relating to the film involving participation and/or representation of persons of African Descent. The definition may involve the film having a predominantly Black cast, a Black crew, a Black director and/or Black Creatives in key decision-making positions, a Black story, with a focus on Black audiences.
So now that you have the definition; What drives Black Independent Filmmaker's to create their works of Art? Is it Imagination? Art Imitating Life? A therapeutic outlet? Frustration? Mmmmm... wonder no more! Come out to see the 2019 San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF) entries selected for competition and view rare films in competition for yourself!
This 3rd day of SABIFF 2019 is filled with independent film showcases from the Open Call FilmFreeway submissions from filmmakers of African Descent from around the globe applied on-line. Entries were primarily from the US, however submissions came in from Iran, Turkey, Belgium, Germany, India, Haiti and Canada. Films have been previewed, pre-judged and selected to present in competition at the state-of-the-art Buena Vista Theater and Aula Canaria on the downtown campus of UTSA, not far from SA's popular Market Square. The film categories in competition include: Best Narrative Feature and Best Documentary Feature, Best Narrative Short, Best Documentary Short, Best Student Film, Best Actor and Actress in a film, and the Audience Choice Award, where your audience vote matters.
