Description
The San Antonio Black International Film Festival (SABIFF 2019) offers film aficionados a real treat to be taught by HAILE GERIMA, an internationally renowned filmmaker, the original UCLA Black Rebellion filmmaker, and former tenured professor at Howard University. This is your opportunity to learn the 'art' of filmmaking and indie film techniques from a film visionary!
An Artist with a warrior discipline, Haile Gerima has blazed the trail for an alternative voice to classic Hollywood Films for over 50 years of filmmaking, advocacy and education. Widely recognized for his groundbreaking film SANKOFA, he is a leader in independent cinema across the globe.
This Master Class gives an integrative and holistic approach to the narrative art form of the visual storyteller. Gerima takes participants through the creative processes that are critical in arming the Film Storyteller with the cinematic narrative language. The workshop will examine the critical aspects of Cinematic Narrative, beginning with the concept of "Montage" or what is known in the United States as Film Editing. Gerima centers Editing/Montage as the pathway to understanding all facets of filmmaking, which is inclusive of: directing, screenwriting, cinematography, production, and post-production. All of these creative processes are a means of discovering one's own unique Cinematic Narrative Logic, voice and 'art' of cinematic storytelling.
Open to anyone interested in filmmaking, history or cinema studies, students, professors, behind-the-scenes crew and cast members, writers, etc.
*Lunch will be provided for registered participants.
